REAL LIFE! – Believe Series: Week Four

The Person & Work of Jesus Christ

  • Jesus was God in the flesh (Human and Divine)
  • He was born of a virgin
  • He lived a sinless life
  • He bears the capacity to pay for our sins in His crucifixion, burial, and resurrection
  • He prepares a place for us in Heaven
  • He promises to return

How does the doctrine of the person and work of Jesus Christ impact our day to day life and relationships? In order to answer that question, we will look at this week’s memory verse:

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:4-7 ESV

#1 We have incredible value and self-worth!

Your life is so very important to God. So much so, he gave his one and only Son to make you alive! When we place our trust in Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, we can realize that we have purpose, we have value, we are loved. No matter what happens in our lives, we can know that God has designed us for a reason. This is so valuable to know for the truth is – people will let us down, people will frustrate us, people will hurt us. Sometimes it is intentional and sometimes it is unintentional. Yet, knowing that God saved us and pursued us even while we were dead in our trespasses (sins), brings a gentle and needed reminder that we have value and purpose. You matter to God, you matter to Jesus, you matter to the Holy Spirit! Please never forget that truth!

#2 Others have incredible value and self-worth!

Not only did God create you for a purpose, but he also created others for a purpose. That they might know and reach out to him. This means, no matter how frustrating, annoying, silly, serious, funny, or great a person is…they are important to God. Just as you have incredible value to God, so do they. Matter of fact, you may be the one who is able to share with another person just how important to God they are! They may never have understood or heard of Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins.

The Challenge:

  1. Live as one who is loved! – You are loved by God and useful to the Kingdom. Relationships can be difficult with those in our home and workplaces. Even still, it does not diminish the love that God has for you and the goals he has for you. You may be the only person who may be able to reach someone in your family, workplace or sports team. So:
  1. Thank God each day for creating you (in your strengths and weaknesses)
  2. Accept others in their strengths and weaknesses
  3. Share with them that they are of incredible value to God!
